Pierre’s Pedal Project brought 33 bikes over the hill to Jackson to support the Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy (AKP) Bike Shop Program that includes two in Tanzania, two in Zambia and one each in Botswana, Uganda and Jordan. These bikes will go to a new program in Uganda, the Bwindi Women’s Bicycle Enterprise, that currently employs six local women.
Every bike shop begins with used, donated bikes collected and shipped from the U.S. The shipping container itself is then converted into a physical bike shop. Five women from a rural village are selected to go through an extensive training program to teach them business skills and how to be bike mechanics.
